Foothills Montessori School Reviews

Great!!! My 3yr old son loves this school, he can't wait for the next day, I absolutely love real Montessori method, be careful there are many Montessori schools that doesn't follow the real method.

This will be my fourth year as a parent at Foothills Montessori School. I feel very fortunate to have found such a wonderful environment for my children to grow. My children have a love of learning that I'm not sure they would have gotten without the guidance and support of their FMS teachers. They're extremely dedicated people, who constantly impress me with their new and creative methods to inspire my children to love learning. While I admit that their Upper Elementary and Middle School rograms have gone through some growing pains with recent expansions, I firmly believe that the education my children are receiving has brought my family a greater quality of life. Upper Elementary has been anything but traditional and I think any Middle School program that has the combined experience of almost 100 years is amazing. Teaching its students appreciation and accountability in today's busy world is WONDERFUL.

Foothills has wonderful, experienced, trained Montessori primary teachers. The primary spanish immersion program is great. The elementary is good and upper elementary program is not montessori at all, mostly public traditional The upper program has had a lot of changes,,......for the worse. I would stick with the primary and elementary and for and upper school I would look for something else. The office staff is helpful but the administration is a piece of work. PS at the time the previous person posted about the science playground......... it wasnt even built yet! so we know where that review came from!

I have seen this school evolve and grow over the past 7 years. I feel incredibly grateful to all the staff members that have been a part of my child's education and development. FMS is truly a close knit community and fosters partnerships with the parents in the education of their child. I encourage parents to visit FMS before applying as the Montessori classroom is amazing and impressive to see first hand. Students are given lessons that would far exceed their ability level in a traditional school becuase the Montessori materials provide visual aid for advanced concepts. This school has truly been a blessing to my child who is academically advanced and working several grade levels ahead. The multi-age groupings allow children to move at thier own pace, reduce competition, and develop cooperation and conflict reloution skills that are life skills. FMS is an inspiring, creative, and magical place for children!

An amazingly holistic school that grows and adds continuously to it's rich curriculum and community. The fabulous base of Montessori is added to with spanish immersion optional classrooms, Orff music classes, a science playground and a wealth of imteresting families that participate and make it a wonderful comfortable place to come together and raise children. The children benefit from the system by becoming enthusiatic learners and natural leaders who help each other. The wonderful staff are also all involved family members of students who care deeply about our children's best interests.

This school has really been wonderful to our children in the earlier years but in the Upper Elementary we feel it is more traditional. I feel if a school is going to call itself Montessori or have academic programs associated with Montessori then it should be Montessori.

Foothills has been a wonderful, nurturing and special place for my children for the past 3 years. That being said, it seems that the school is changing gears and heading in a different direction. Outside of Primary and a couple of the Lower Elementary classrooms, this school seems to be losing its Montessori touch.

We also withdrew our child from this school. I spent time in our child's classroom. It was disorganized and there was little direction provided by teachers. My child was bullied by several others and no one noticed a thing. And Heaven help you if both parents work. I'm a huge advocate of Montessori, but I was really disappointed by Foothills' program.

We love this school! Our son is in Kindergarten this year, and started at FMS as a toddler. For those that believe Montessori is 'the school with no rules' they need to experience Montessori first-hand, as this is not the case. The children are given independence but also responsibilities re the work that is to be done each day. Our child has been learning in a peaceful, supportive and respectful environment that is allowing him to love the process of learning. His depth of knowledge is amazing - he is reading and learning so much that would not be possible in public school. The teachers and staff are supportive and kind, and genuinely care about the children. The Spanish immersion program is great, and again the children are learning in a gentle and effective manner. We are moving, otherwise our children would be at FMS as long as possible.

This school was not for our child. If you are unfamiliar with the Montessori concepts, please do your research before enrolling your child. Our daughter attended preschool at this school for 7 months until we withdrew her. She did not do well in such an unstructured environment. She rarely brought home any schoolwork. Unruly children were not disciplined and disrupted the class often. Because my daughter was part time, it seemed she was an afterthought. There is so much fundraising going on in this school it makes me wonder where my tuition went. When I placed my daughter in another local, private, traditional school it was like night and day. She loved it, and continues to love it 3 years later. Do your homework on this school and the Montessori teaching concepts. Some kids love it and do well, others do not.

My daughter is in Kindergarten and we have found this to be an exceptional environment for her. We have also spent time observing the higher grades to make a decision about keeping her here. The 1-3 and 4-6 grade classrooms were fabulous! They have many small group lessons as well as one to one attention for each student as they work. Particularly if your child is very self directed, this is a great envrionment. The teachers are especially dedicated. They truely know their students and encourage them individually. They also encorporate Saxton math, SRA's, and other mainstream curriculum into the traditional montessori teaching methods. This is a place where you will find a community of people who care about your child and who will do whatever it takes to make sure your child has every opportunity to learn and grow.

Our biggest fear when having our son start school was that we didn't want him to be bored because he couldn't go at his own pace. I love Foothills Montessori school because he can work at his pace and learn new things as needed instead of waiting for everyone else to catch up. I have two nieces that go too and the three of them are excelling and I believe it is because of the way the school teaches the students. The hands on experience is informative and fun. I have tried to be more involved as much as I can. I wish I had more time to be involved. It seems it is the same moms and dads that are involved.

I am so lucky to have my son go to this school. The quality of the education he has received is above and beyond what I would have expected. My preschooler reads, knows math facts including decimals, geography, astronomy, and so much more. The other parents and staff have also become like a second family to us. They are all so wonderful there.

Wow! What a fantastic school. My son attented 1st grade here and we were really impressed. The teachers are fantastic, the school is absolutely beautiful, and the parent involvement is monumental. Learning is progressive and closely watched, though still child led, per the Montessori way. Everyone I encountered through this school has been so great. They have some extracurriclar activities, lots of educational field trips, and exciting festivals that correspond with the learning or the seasons. They have a fully stocked library, computer access for all grades, before and after school care by licensed teachers, homework help, art, music, sports, I could go on and on. Since this site's existence, they have expanded to 6th grade and are looking to expand all the way through middle school. It's worth every penny. (We were in financial trouble during this year, and I worked 2 jobs to keep my son there.)
