Bishop Gorman High School Reviews

There has been a major change in the school administration at Gorman. The previous Head of School was unceremoniously fired by the Diocese; in fact, the Diocese gave him 10 minutes to leave the building. The new acting Head of School, Aggie Evert, is one of the most competent administrators you can have at any school. I'm cautiously optimistic that things can turn around at Gorman, but there is a considerable amount of damage control ahead of the Gorman community. I don't envy Mrs. Everet's position; it's a real turnaround situation. Thankfully, Gorman has a wonderful student body and alumni community. I think there is a lot of hope, as long as the alumni make sure that what has happened in the past two years never happens again.

One of the best decisions I've ever made was to send my two children to Gorman.

We have two students at Bishop Gorman and have been very happy with the school overall. We like the academics and the sports programs. There are many clubs for the kids who are not into sports. The majority of the teachers and administrators truly seem to like what they are doing and they do it well!

As an alumnus, I found that Gorman offered superior academic, athletics, and extra curricular programs to that of their local counterparts both private and public. My time there was unforgettable and the relationships that I have maintained since are paramount. One of the unparalleled advantages that Gorman offers is its tight-knit community of students, parents, alumni, and staff. Moreover, the student mindset of Gorman students is just different. As a public school student through middle school, I recall discussions that I had with other seniors across the valley, who were approaching graduation. The friends that I would talk to from the CCSD schools asked, What are you going to do next year? whereas Gorman students would inquire, Where are you going to school next year? At Gorman, collegiate education is implied and expected. It was this mentality that took me to an Ivy League school from which I graduated in 3.5 years. I would encourage any child or parent in the greater Las Vegas area to enroll at Bishop Gorman.

* Athletics are supreme here * Academics CAN be a total joke sometimes * The new campus has very obvious and stupid architectural flaws (small hallways for the ENTIRE POPULATION!) * Administration can be stupid/ridiculous most of the time (dont care unless you're smart to begin with)

School is fun, but the academics are not looked up as much as athletics.

Bishop Gorman is a cornerstone of education in Las Vegas. The school has the best students in the valley and the most wonderfully supportive community of parents and alumni. Gorman is is dire need of a professional administration that fosters all that is still great in the school before it's too late.

There is little to no professional development for teachers and teacher morale is very low. The current principal may very well be the worst thing that has happened to this school. This school has wonderfully supportive parents and motivated students and can rebound with a new administration.

My son was recruited here to play sports. The athletic programs are good, but outside of that, the academics are a joke. Gorman is very overrated as a school.

The student body is intelligent and talented, yet most of the teachers don't know how to encourage them to work up to their potential. The Advanced Placement Test scores are very low and raising them is not a priority for the administration. Old fashioned.

outstand academic program and sports programs

Bishop Gorman is an academically challenging school for my son and I am sufficiently content with the level of rigor and the content of the curriculum. The label, 'college prep', is apt here. I hope the new principal for 05-06 will be a bit more strict concerning the dress code at the school. Too many times on a given day does one see student violations and what appears to be non-enforcement by the staff. Also, as a Catholic school, I hope for a more faith filled experience going forward; more frequent Masses, etc. I think at least once a week Mass attendance by the student body should be mandatory.

Both my children attended this school and I am most pleased with their education.

Bishop Gorman and its wonderful teachers and coaches are truly blessing on us parents and our teenagers. Teacher involvement and coaches involvement don't end at the close of class. They are and have been there in my childs case 24/7 many years after he has graduated. Ken Wackes is the best the school could ask for to look for leadership. My son recently married and Coach Chambers was a groomsman at his wedding to show how these wonderful men and women stay in a childs life. God Bless them and the new school.
