A popular restaurant in Las Vegas has spread its wings and is now lighting up the Downtown Las Vegas dining scene at the Plaza Hotel & Casino. Located under the “Dome” of the hotel, the second location of Firefly offers a room with a view – of the famed Fremont Street Experience.

Known for its Spanish flavor, Firefly is noted for its eclectic “tapas” menu  featuring small plates and appetizers that go hand-in-hand with the house specialty sangrias that are available by the glass or pitcher. The restaurant has been a favorite spot since it opened on Paradise Road across from the Hughes Center in 2003. Like its original location, which still draws crowds nightly, the new venue offers a full bar and an intimate lounge, along with the domed dining room, serving up single-serving tapas dishes as well as full-size entrees, late into the evening.

“It’s truly an iconic location downtown and we intend to draw on our current base of loyal, local Firefly fans as well as tourists from Fremont Street and from the Strip,” explains John Simmons, Chef/Owner of Firefly. “People will be surprised, blown away by the room. You really have to see it. It’s like flying in a giant gypsy spaceship into the mouth of the lights and show of the Fremont Street Experience.”

None of the tapas is over $10. Offerings include a petite filet with roasted potatoes and spinach, bacon-wrapped dates in wine sauce, lamb chops, sliders, skewers, empanadas, and shrimp a la diabla. There are also dozens of other meat, chicken and veggie dishes. Early and late Happy Hours are also being instituted.

Firefly joins two other new restaurant venues at the Plaza Hotel & Casino. A Las Vegas icon for 30 years, the Omelet House recently opened another location at the property. “Stuffed,” an all-you-can-eat buffet featuring a new high-end dinner menu offering specialty nights seven nights a week is a new addition as well. The hotel boasts the largest Race & Sportsbook downtown and presents a live show, “The Rat Pack is Back” nightly as well as free entertainment in its Aqua Lounge on the casino floor.
