Tourists will now be able to have a taste of what it’s like to be a true Las Vegas resident, thanks to the opening of the latest location of the city’s iconic Omelet House Diner.

Downtown at the Plaza Hotel & Casino, the new venue provides guests with the full flavor of what the 30-year local Las Vegas mainstay serving breakfast and lunch has always been noted for -- large portions, more than 30 omelet selections plus other breakfast as well as lunch items, and being a place for power lunches and individual and family breakfasts. Since the other two off-Strip locations of the eatery are popular hangouts for the movers and shakers in Las Vegas, it is expected that tradition will continue at the Plaza as well.

“What makes us different is more hands-on food preparation,” says Mike McGowan, who owns the Omelet House along with Kevin Mills and Fred Ostertag. “Our soups, sauces and chili are all made fresh. We also serve two homemade breads – pumpkin nut and banana nut. Plus, we cut our potatoes fresh so out guests eat a real potato, not a chemical potato. In other places, every potato has chemicals added to it so that it doesn’t turn brown when the air hits it because it’s too much work to make the potatoes fresh. Also, we fry them up in non-trans fat oil, which is double the cost of regular oil, again which few restaurants use.”

McGowan also points out that a diner, breakfast, and lunch are part of the American persona. He notes that whether people are out and about at work or at play, the latter are the two meals that they have to eat out, unless they plan on brown-bagging it.

“We have always had the niche of fun, food in an atmosphere with great energy,” he notes. “We’re thrilled about our new location at the Plaza and about introducing ourselves to downtown Las Vegas visitors.”

Besides the numerous Omelet selections, the Omelet House also features old-fashioned pancakes, French toast, Eggs Benedict, waffles, sandwiches, hamburgers, homemade soups, and salads. Some of the popular hamburger selections include the Jack-of-All-Trades, served with Jack cheese, guacamole, lettuce and tomato; the Patti Page, a half-pound patty with American and Jack cheese with grilled onions on rye, and the Ortega Chiles Burger, with Orega Chiles and Jack Cheese.
