Sugarcane: a taste of the sweet life at the Palazzo
From the restaurant group that brought you SushiSamba, .... now the icing on the cake, its late-night venue,SugarCane.
Just a dark corridor separates restaurant life from nightlife with SugarCane at the Palazzo embracing the same spirit and design aesthetic of Brazil, Japan, and Peru as its sister venue. (Both are on the second floor of the Shoppes at the Palazzo.)
SugarCane plays host to a number of special events and performances, such as capoeira, a Brazilian dance that incorporates martial arts, which gained popularity in the 16th century amongst sugarcane plantation workers.
In addition, there are samba dancers, geishas, Japanese taiko drummers, models posing as Brazilian soccer players who juggle soccer balls at the venue’s entrance, and SugarCane's in-house dancers.
Resident DJ's spin a blend of music genres ranging from house to Top 40 to Brazilian and Japanese pop and are occasionally accompanied by live bands. There are also special promotional nights. Once such is the Wednesday night Sugarbeats promotion, created in partnership with nightlife guru Marc Jay, in which percussionists join DJs play various genres.
"The experience at SugarCane is unlike any other in Las Vegas," says general manager Todd Rubin. "Samba dancers, geishas, distinctive cocktails and over-the-top interior design will ensure that this interactive nightlife experience fulfills its promise for stylish entertainment."
Talk about over-the-top — more than 4,000 custom-made simulated "sugarcanes" drop down from the ceiling and contain moving lights that wind through the tubes and rods of each one.
In addition, theatrically colored lights project through the dramatic sugarcane ceiling terrain. As in SushiSamba, the signature characters of celebrated Brazilian graffiti artist Felipe Yung ("Flip") are featured throughout the club’s décor.
SugarCane also serves SushiSamba’s ample variety of signature cocktails. Reflecting the restaurant’s eclectic culinary roots, SugarCane's in-house mixologists offer cocktails made from fresh muddled fruits, juices and herbs. Out of 17 featured drinks, eight are exclusive to the Las Vegas menu.
Parisian Geisha (vodka, sake, mint and lemongrass), the Figo (Montecristo spiced wine, fig liquor, pear juice and lime) and the Bushido or "Soul of Japan" (shochu, plum sake, muddled plum and daikon beer float) are the highlights of the menu.
There are also SushiSamba classics such as the national drink of Brazil, the Caipirinha, Peru's frothy and famed pisco sour and variations of Japanese chu-his, along with much more. Boasting one of the largest saki collections on the West Coast, SugarCane is one of the rare nightlife venues to host saki bottle service.
How sweet it is!
