Trainer for a Day: getting kissy-face with a dolphin!
It’s the day of the dolphin, and time to check out an attraction that's making a huge splash with visitors to the Las Vegas Strip.
The Trainer for a Day program at The Mirage Dolphin Habitat will allow you to be up close and personal with these gentle, beautiful marine mammals.
Activities available with the aquatic friends include feeding and petting, in-the-pool encounters, a double-pectoral fin shake, squeeky dolphin "conversations," and even a kiss on the rostrum (nose).
Trainer for a Day provides a chance to connect with the dolphins and experience a hands-on, educational program. The adventure begins the moment you arrive. During a light continental breakfast, a program facilitator will give you an orientation on the terminology used by the trainers and the hand signals used to train the dolphins.
Afterward, you're treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of the Dolphin Habitat before changing into your wetsuit and being introduced to the dolphin trainers for hands-on instruction.
After a 90-minute training session with one of the dolphins, you’ll break at midday for a poolside lunch. The afternoon session may include additional dolphin training lessons or learning more about dolphin behavior. You’ll also learn about dolphin health and the Dolphin Habitat’s research projects that aid in the survival of the Atlantic bottlenose dolphins in the wild.
Limited to four participants a day, the all-day program is open to everyone 13 years of age or older and also includes an 8-by-10 photo, Trainer for a Day Certificate of Completion, admission to Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat, a Trainer for a Day embroidered polo shirt and hat, and a photo CD of your experience. Participants age 13–15 are required to have an adult participant or observer accompany them.
For an additional fee, participants also may bring an observer to Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat, the morning orientation, breakfast and the lunch. The observer may also shadow the participant, have a photo taken with a dolphin and receive an 8-by-10 photograph of the experience.
