Pole Position Raceway keeps you on track
Life in the fast lane takes on a whole new meaning at the Pole Position Raceway in Las Vegas. There both novice and experienced racers can zoom around in indoor race karts that are the fastest of their kind in the United States.
Since it opened in December 2007, more than 80,000 people have raced at the 60,000-square-foot venue that features a unique quarter-mile European-style track designed by professional racecar drivers.
NASCAR Champion Kurt Busch and seven-time AMA Supercross Champion Jeremy McGrath are both part of the team that brought Pole Position Raceway to Las Vegas. Professional racers such as Kevin Harvick, Travis Pastrana, Al Unser Jr. and Kyle Busch come out to the track along with the general public that’s looking to put themselves in the driver’s seat where a fun adventure is concerned.
While many people may be expecting bumper karts or kiddie karts, the reality is that the racing carts are approximately 18-horsepower and can reach speeds of up to 45 miles per hour. The electric-powered karts are also environmentally friendly, emitting no exhaust. Drivers choose a racing name, which shows up on a big screen above the raceway, before heading onto the track. Via this screen, racers can view their standing among the other participants.
Once in the karts, drivers will find themselves using their strength to maneuver hairpin turns, long straight-aways and other elements as cars bump, crash and screech behind them. A scorecard is given to each racer at the end of the race that offers them overall race stats along with each driver’s lap time and position.
Pole Position Raceway is an overall entertainment experience in tandem with competitive karting so those that don’t choose to race still have plenty to see and do. On display throughout the facility are motorcycles, race cars, racing suits and helmets worn by professional racers. And upstairs there is a game room housing a pinball machine, two pool tables and plasma TVs. From there, there is a great aerial view of the track and the action below.
In addition, there is an arcade that offers a variety of racing games. Memorabilia, such as T-shirts and hats, is sold at the facility and group racing packages are available. Guests that want a customized experience can host a private party or special event at Pole Position Raceway as well.
Complimentary shuttle service is also available from the Las Vegas Strip. Call the raceway for a list of participating hotels. Racers must be at least 48 inches (4 feet) tall and able to operate a kart.
